A group of concerned healthcare professionals realized the following trends in the society and decided to take action in order to improve the generation and transmission of correct and reliable medical and health care information to the public. The recent COVID-19 pandemic proved that such a goal is vital for the wellbeing and survival of the society.
1- The spread of unscientific wrong and harmful healthcare information in the society, fake health care news!.
2- Severe shortage of medical writers and medical journalists with appropriate background in health care education and experience capable of spreading correct, scientific and valid medical and health care information in the society.
3- An urgent need to have a an organized educational body that promotes, educates, trains and assists healthcare professionals become more involved in medical writing and medical journalism
The mission of the American Academy of Medical Writers is to encourage, train, assist and guide professionals with prior training or experience in any branch related to the healthcare industry to practice their ethical, civic, and professional duty and become more involved in medical writing and medical journalism.
We believe that healthcare professionals, by virtue of their training and/ or experience, are better capable of becoming medical writers and medical journalists in order to spread correct scientific and relevant medical knowledge and awareness in the society. This serves the ultimate goal of promoting appropriate education and good health in the intended target audience and the public at large.
